FAR EAST OUTSOURCING
LEAN MANUFACTURING
E-Fulfillment into a Pan European Automotive Manufacturer
The client
Major manufacturer of automotive parts
Strategic decision taken to outsource supply
Uses traditional business processes
The challenge
Enable efficient outsourcing of 10,000 order lines
Minimise headcount and manual processes
Maintain Service Levels
The solution
Our approach was to understand both the needs of the customer and the corporate financial requirements of our client's parent company. An initial review identified that any conventional approach would not be able to cost effectively process the required number of order lines per year and still deliver an acceptable level of service.
In order to meet this challenge, a completely new business process was developed around an e-supply chain ASP. For this to be effective there was a need to re-design many of the physical operational and control processes including:
The automated creation and authorisation of supplier invoices
The transmission of orders and schedules using the internet
The automatic progress chasing of late orders using a sequence of escalating electronic warnings
Self-billing
The outcome is that a process was designed that will allow most orders to be managed without any direct activity by our client.
