PROJECT MANAGEMENT
STRATEGY
Performance Improvement for a Global FMCG Business
The client
The European region of a $5.5 billion global FMCG business successfully operating in 70 countries
The challenge
Global business improvement initiative imposing demands for improved project delivery
The IS team is rapidly expanding and dispersing to support the regions businesses
Current project management practices are not delivering acceptable performance
The solution
Our initial review diagnosed that it was necessary to adopt a tailor-made methodology that would be effective across all IS teams. Using the ProAct methodology as a baseline we designed the bespoke process to give the client a culture based change programme to improve project management performance.
Running a Project Initiation process based on best practice team building techniques we trained all staff affected by a project, from sponsor to team members, in project objective setting and planning.
We then created a toolbox for each manager from which the most appropriate techniques can be selected for each project. This ensures the principle of a common language and approach is retained at all times.
Full documentation in the form of Practices Manuals, training material and other support aids have been completed and form part of the ongoing performance improvement.
Based on the success enjoyed by the European IS team the sponsor was awarded Global Project Prize by the parent group. Subsequently the process has been taken up globally and over 300 staff world wide have now been trained in the new methodology.
In addition, other areas in the business, eg Finance and Operations, have now adopted the methodology for their projects.
