Lean in Healthcare: Increasing theatre throughput and reducing waiting times

Long waiting lists and slow theatre throughput at Wrightington hospital were evidenced by sub-optimal theatre utilisation and lengthy processes. Through lean in healthcare mapping and processes significant improvements were made with emerging results suggesting an increase in day of operations admissions from 5% to 75% and a 25% increase in patient throughput.
